Digital technology has had a significant impact in all sectors of the economy, and while the uptake hasn’t been quite as rapid in manufacturing, now is the time for organisations to get on board. Industry 4.0 is here, and research from Siemens finds that over half of manufacturing CEOs expect digitalisation to transform the entire sector.
At our manufacturing plant in Mulgrave, DaRa Switchboards is welcoming the transition to Industry 4.0 with a number of new technologies and processes. Improving our efficiency and ability to deliver custom switchboard solutions to customers is our paramount concern, and our engineers now have the systems in place to achieve this goal.
DaRa Switchboards is welcoming the transition to Industry 4.0.
Unpacking Industry 4.0
Transitioning to digital processes quickly is emerging as the defining element separating successful manufacturers from the pack. These organisations – which PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has dubbed “first movers” – are already experiencing significant revenue increases alongside reduced costs almost three times faster than competitors.
By implementing smarter manufacturing initiatives, PwC expects costs to fall by 3.6 per cent every year until 2020, while revenues will grow by 2.9 per cent each year over the same period. These improvements – particularly the cost reductions – can be passed on to the customers of manufacturers such as DaRa Switchboards in the form of lower prices and faster service. Quality is increased, speed of production rises, prices drop – benefits everyone in the manufacturing chain can enjoy.
Industry 4.0 at DaRa’s facility
The focus at DaRa’s facility is on custom switchboards, but the digital innovation of Industry 4.0 can be applied to all manufacturing regardless of the end product. Here’s a breakdown of the Industry 4.0 initiatives we have launched:
- Design: Our ability to deliver truly custom solutions relies on smart design, and our estimation and design software Streamgineer, integrated with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, allows us to plan and test a final product more rapidly.
- Automation: DaRa’s engineers are top-class, but removing repetitive precision tasks with automation – through conveyor lines, automatic wire stripping and crimping – allows us to fit and wire custom switchboards with greater efficiency.
- Supply: Delivering the best switchboard solutions in a timely fashion requires having the components on hand. Bossard’s Smart Factory Logistics system ensures our production team have all the necessary c-parts and electrical equipment to manufacture an electrical switchboard at all times.
Leveraging the technology of Industry 4.0, DaRa will continue being the ideal choice for your next custom electrical switchboard. Talk to our team today.
