Need a custom switchboard? We at DaRa offer a product and service that is hard to beat. Here is a step-by-step guide of how the service works:
1. Placing an order
A client will call to make an enquiry about our custom switchboard service, providing details of the specifications they require and any accompanying diagrams. We at DaRa will talk with them about their needs and provide details about our processes and the potential lead time. A competitive estimate will then be sent to the customer.
2. Design process
When an order is placed, our electrical engineers design the switchboard, map out the manufacturing process and identify any specialist construction equipment needed.
We will allocate a dedicated engineer to oversee the manufacturing process from start to finish.
3. Manufacturing process
We will allocate a dedicated engineer to oversee the manufacturing process from start to finish, who is responsible for maintaining the quality, lead time and any changes customers might request.
Switchboard manufacturing involves turret punching, cutting, folding, welding and powder coating of sheet metal, usually aluminium, into pieces that can be used to enclose the switchboard circuitry.
A custom switchboard could require an enclosure using up to 10 pieces of sheet metal, so a lot of welding can be required.
Once our team of welders have completed their work, the enclosures go through a three-stage powder coating process where they are washed, degreased and treated with a phosphate coat. A semi-automated powder coating line applies 50 to 120 microns of thick powder to the enclosure’s metal surface, which is then cured to produce a high-quality powder-coated finish.
Powder coating helps to protect the metal enclosures from the weather, especially those made of steel and ones being placed outside.

4. Assembly
Once all switchboard enclosure parts have been manufactured, they can be moved through to assembly. Hinges are fitted and all the hardware enclosed. Our specialist electrical team will then fit the internal electrical components and wiring.
Electrical testing is conducted to confirm our high-quality switchboard meets Australian regulatory standards. All electrical properties are checked before the switchboard is then signed off and shipped.
5. Delivery
Including the design stage and client sign-off process, delivery times for DaRa custom switchboards range from two to six weeks, depending on various factors such as the size of the enclosure and how many components have been incorporated. For modular installations that don’t require a custom-build, our off-the-shelf switchboards can be assembled and shipped within 48 hours.
A smooth and reliable process. At DaRa, we pride ourselves on delivering highly customised products suitable for any industry – from the mining, medical and renewable energy sectors, to large-scale industrial, commercial and residential projects.
